Description from owner
Description
Le Mas Des Gardiols, La Cerisaie, a medieval Provence stone house in the Luberon national reserve, provides guests a true taste of 17th century Provence living. Our Luberon home is over three-hundred years old; yet retains original beamed ceilings, exposed stone walls, tiled floors, and a private trellised courtyard where grape vines wind amid roses and jasmine. The regions lavender, jasmine and spices aromas that perfume the Provence evening and seep into crevasses of the ancient structure..
This Luberon home has been thoughtfully and beautifully restored with a Gourmet kitchen, modern baths, extra hot water heaters, brand-new comfortable beds, authentic, durable Provencal country antique furnishings, and interior appointments. French doors in kitchen and dining room open directly into the private courtyard which has a stone table gathering place comfortably seating ten for conversation or to share a meal.
A bedroom and bath, a sitting room, in addition to a kitchen dining area are on the ground level. Two staircases lead to the second level. One is a spiral staircase leading up from the dining room to the family/living room, from where one can view the gardens, nearby vineyards, lavender fields, the Luberon village of Roussillon, and the Luberon Mountain range. The master suite siting off the living room has the king-size bed, beamed ceilings, and a a private en-suite bath with tub, shower, sink, and bidet. The living room also has beamed ceilings, bookshelves with books, games, CD player, video cassettes, satellite TV. Two additional bedrooms lie off a foyer attached to the TV room. One, a lovely large bedroom with fireplace contains twin beds. A second smaller bedroom also has twin beds. A bathroom sits between the two upstairs twin bedrooms. Both bedrooms have the same Luberon view. Below these two bedrooms, an ancient garden/kitchen and family living space, is today converted into a bedroom suite with queen-size bed, unique vaulted ceilings, an original fireplace, and an original ceramic tile floor. A private bathroom faces this room. Across the courtyard from this space is an old outdoor Baker's kitchen with the original bread oven. Today this space provides a shaded, cool hideaway, but the old wood-cooking bread oven can still provide a warming fire in the winter but could also brown a baguette.
The ancient home faces a gated pool, garden, eating area. Here a private pool is nestled in a lovingly tended trees and flowers with lavender, climbing roses, laurel, oleander, rosemary, and fig trees. Here one can lunch under the shade of a cherry tree at a second stone table in a trellised eating area, get lost in a book, gaze at Roussillon and the Luberon range, or snooze in the shade to the songs of birds and the cicadas’ hums.
Food and wine are a prime reason many visit and persistently return to Provence and the Luberon. You can visit a different Provencal Luberon village or Vaucluse outdoor market every day and cook with fresh local ingredients, have a cook do it for you, or eat in one of the world-class, Michelin star rated restaurants in the vicinity. The home lies amid welcoming Luberon vineyards, our favorite within walking distance. However, the world-famous Chateauneuf-du-Pape just 45 minutes away. Other famous regional wines include Gigandos, Beaume de Venise and the Cotes de Rhone, Ventoux or Luberon. Local cheeses and olive oil mills are plentiful and delicious. The region is famous for its orchards, almonds, lavender and melons..
