“Ambience of Southern France captured”

Reviewed 8 Oct 2014

We stayed in La Petite Maison for two weeks with friends. The ambiance of southern France was captured in all aspects of location, venue, foods, wine and environs to visit. The markets were great and Judy and Amanda's hospitality warm and friendly. We had some great shared meals including recipes with Judy and Amanda. An experience to savour and reminisce over. When we next have a long lunch.

Response from the owner Judy and I always enjoy to share a meal and wine with great guests, time permitting, particularly such enthusiastic foodies as yourselves. Your review is appreciated and we hope to see you back.

“Top location, house, pool and hostesses!”

Reviewed 22 Sep 2014

La Petite Maison is a quirky house on a number of levels and was incredibly well-suited for our extended and 'blended' family. Plenty of space for everyone, and everything you could need in terms of facilities. Outside, there's a lovely little private patio overlooking the pool area, and then down the steps you enter the shared garden with loads of seating - a huge table under the vine-laden pergola is perfect for those long slow lunches or just for unwinding and chilling after the day's activities. Then there's the pool which is saline-based, not chlorine, so no irritated eyes or skin. The nearest wine cooperative (with drinkable rosé at about 7 euros for FIVE litres!) is about half a mile away, but there are better wines to be had, still at incredible prices, all over the place. The nearby town of Uzes has plenty going on, and through the summer there's rarely an evening when there isn't something happening either in Uzes itself or in one of the surrounding villages. Whilst we were there we saw live music in Uzes, a festival in a nearby village with the running of the bulls and more live music, and a night market in St Maximin itself - starting literally just outside the door of the accommodation, where local producers were selling their produce - and giving out samples too of course... Plenty of outdoor activities locally - our favourite is the kayaking on the Gardon, taking in the 2000-year-old aqueduct at Pont du Gard - a relaxing 8km stretch of canoeing where you can stop and swim or have your packed lunch at any of hundreds of natural little beaches on the way. You're probably trying to decide between a few properties that you're looking at - make sure you book this one if you possibly can - it really is fantastic and is thoroughly recommended. Thank you to Amanda and Judy, the charming hostesses who were always ready with suggestions and help during our stay - we will be back!

Response from the owner Always a pleasure hosting your wonderful blended family Rik and Jackie. We look forward to your return. Amanda & Judy

Can't say enough about our wonderful week in St Maximin. The house was very comfortable and full of interesting paintings, objets d'art and furnishings. Then there's outdoors - plenty of leafy areas to spread out and relax in and a neat pool. We were sorry not to meet Amanda but Judy looked after us like we were family. We had a perfect week in a little piece of paradise.

“Warm & original”

Reviewed 8 Jul 2011

The "tips" for writing a review suggest describing "the service" but staying in Petite Maison felt more like staying with friends or family than a hotel-style service! The atmosphere was essentially just help yourself and/ or ask if you are unsure. The property was charming & the outdoor living & entertaining area were lovely spaces to socialise with the other guests. While St Maximin itself is a very small town, the close 5- 10 minute drive to Uzes was very handy & lots of other attractions of Provence are within 2 hours drive away. The amenities at Petite Maison were adequate considering the historic age of the building. For me the best was the out door pool & terrace areas for getting together with the group or just relaxing & reading. I least liked the little bitey insects and would have started with serious application of insect repellant on the first day if I realised!
