_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
YOU WILL WAKE TO MEDITERRANEAN SUNSHINE pouring into the windows of this elegant stone villa poised between the mountains and the sea, just a few moments from the medieval city of Vence with its lively markets, sunny cafés and fine restaurants. Surrounded by gardens and a stunning open landscape, the exceptionally quiet location is enchanting day and night. Whether you are inside, on the terraces, in the gardens or by the palm-fringed pool you will be unable to take your eyes away from those breathtaking views! Plan your day to relax by the pool in the sunshine or take a trip to Antibes, Nice, Monaco, Cannes or even Italy – all within easy reach. The villa has everything you will need to make your stay truly memorable: fine comfortable furniture with traditional stone floors and painted wooden shutters are complemented by high quality modern facilities throughout. Keep in touch with complimentary wifi internet.
The property is suitable for all ages with the main living area, kitchen, two of the four bedrooms and the pool area on one level. Two bedrooms are on the upper floor level and the lower gardens and parking area are in front of the villa. To the side of the house is the third garden area with boules court and a lilly pond.
The main terrace continues around the villa, linking the kitchen and outside dining area (seats 12), which also includes a 'summer kitchen' for barbecues. Two of the gardens are laid to lawn and are ideal children's play areas, one being equipped with a climbing frame with swings and a slide for smaller children. The third garden area is bordered by vines, fruit trees and lavender, and forms a 'petanque' court which leads to an ornamental water-lily and goldfish pond.
The local history of Vence is fascinating, with its origins in the pre Gallo-Roman times and you will be surprised to find authentic Roman stone tablets outside the Cathedral (the smallest in France!) alongside the Provençal squares and buildings. By contrast, on the inside is a mosaic mural by Marc Chagall.
There are twice-weekly markets in Vence, lots of small local shops and hairdressers, and modern supermarkets selling everything. You can fill water bottles from the fresh spring water that runs constantly from public taps around the town.
You will need a car to make the most of the area as we are 370m above sea-level (hence the views!) with some steep hills towards the mountains. If you enjoy driving through a spectacular landscape you should not miss the roads up to and around Le Col de Vence, where new car models are frequently seen being filmed against its stunning backdrop.
WALKING / HIKING: A footpath next to the villa leads directly to the hills and mountains above Vence where you will find various trails and some amazing waterfalls. There are many other walking routes close by, including the famous and mysterious Col de Vence.
ARTS: The Matisse Chapel is a short walk from the villa and there is plenty to inspire the art lover in Vence, the 'City of Arts', with the Château de Villeneuve (contemporary art museum) in the centre and many local artists showing their work in their studios. The Maeght Foundation at St Paul de Vence has an extensive, world-famous collection featuring Miro and Giacometti. MAMAC is the main contemporary art museum of Nice and there are museums dedicated to Picasso at Antibes and Vallauris, to Matisse and Chagall in Nice, Leger in Biot, Bonnard in Le Cannet and Renoir in Cagnes-sur-Mer, all less than an hour away.
MUSIC: There are jazz clubs in Vence and various concerts in the town and surrounding area. In the summer, Vence hosts the hugely popular 'Nuits du Sud' concerts with performers from all over the world.
The NEAREST BEACH to Vence is at Cagnes-sur-Mer, 15 minutes drive from the villa. This is a pebble beach and has bikes etc to hire. The promenade is part of the cycle route from Antibes to Nice which is very popular and an easy, flat ride for adults and children. Antibes, Juan les Pins and Cannes have sandy beaches and similar facilities. There are beach restaurants at intervals along the coast.
Under 30 MINUTES DRIVE to: Nice airport, Nice, Grasse, Cap d'Antibes, Juan les Pins etc. Children's activities at Marineland, adventure forests (tree-walks etc), glass-making, perfumery, sweets-making, pony-trekking, watersports.
POOL HEATING, usually unnecessary in summer months, is available on request at additional charge.
CLEANING SERVICE, twice-weekly, is included in rental rates.
ADDITIONAL SERVICES: baby-sitting, chauffeur service and other services available on request at additional charge.
