Villa Clara is everything you hope it will be. A lovely home in an exceptional setting at the edge of an unspoiled French mountain village with all of the Cote D'Azure below you. The house is tastefully furnished as if you are a guest in someone's home. The patio off the kitchen gives you a panorama for your evening drink or meal. The swimming pool at the end of a hot day was a delight to our two families. Anna made sure that we would be comfortable and helped us in every way she could. Highly recommended.

We just returned from a perfect stay at Villa Clara. Everything from the initial contact to the return of our security deposit went incredibly smoothly. The owner, Anna, is a model of efficiency and a fount of information. She responds to every query quickly and with much useful information. The villa is in picture-perfect Saint-Jeannet; an ancient perched village situated 20 minutes from Nice airport. The views from the house are splendid. You see the towns of Vence and St. Paul immediately below and Nice, Antibes, and the Mediterranean in the distance. Behind the house, visible from the pool deck, is the “Baou” which is an enormous, jagged rock that caps the mountain and is a famous center of rock climbing and hiking. The village boasts an excellent bistro, a couple of great bakeries, a wonderful Boulangerie, and a small grocery store. There is also a climbing store that sells equipment and maps and books of walks and climbs in the area. The villa is stocked with whatever you need to make your vacation memorable. It was sparkling clean when we arrived with comfortable beds, good water pressure, a lovely espresso machine, an honor cabinet containing delicious wine from a local vineyard, a dishwasher and washer/dryer, even a wood burning pizza oven. The house is solid and quiet and constructed so that the late night 20 something girls did not disturb the early rising 50 something parents (and vise versa). Mornings included a walk down the lane to “town” to buy croissants, perhaps stopping by the butcher to order a gorgeous rotisserie chicken, ratatouille, and amazing mashed potatoes for later, and returning to the terrace, the view, and our homemade espresso. Evenings were equally romantic watching the sunset and the light change over the Mediterranean. Our most difficult conflicts were when to actually leave the villa and visit the incredible sights (Chagall! Matisse! Picasso! Nice! Antibes! St. Paul de Vence!) and whether to cook at home or dine in one of the superb nearby restaurants (We highly recommend Bistrot Gourmand Clovis in Tourrettes-sur-Loup). Although just outside Nice, you are right in the middle of farming country (There is a local vineyard just down the hill). You awake to a symphony of birds and eau de fertilizer wafts by late at night (it is mostly outside and gone by morning). If you rent a car, we recommend a small one to better navigate the narrow and curved driveway. Tired of museums and medieval churches, our 23-year-old daughter and her friend went on a wine tasting one afternoon with Benoit from the Frogs House that they raved about and highly recommend. Villa Clara is a magical place. We are already planning our return.

Villa Clara is a lovely house perched on a hill on the outskirts of a charming village. The house is comfortable, well equipped, has breathtaking views and can comfortably accommodate 3 couples and 2 children. The pool is set at the bottom of a pretty garden, but honestly most of the time we spent at the house was in the kitchen and on the dining balcony because it was so comfortable and the views were so extraordinary. The house is in a great location for day trips around the Cote d'Azur. But if you stay at Villa Clara, don't overlook spending time in the village of St Jeannet. It has more to offer than initially meets the eye. Delicious freshly baked bread is only a few minutes walk and there are a couple of excellent restaurants. The caretaker met us with a warm and hospitable welcome and was a wonderful resource for the area.
