My family and I have stayed at La Lavande more times than we can remember over the last few years and it has become our much cherished holiday destination for two or three special weeks of the year. Maybe we are not very adventurous but we like to be able to relax from the moment we arrive - the house wants for nothing and is beautifully equipped with everything from dishwasher to corkscrew. There is always a bottle of local rose waiting for us.

Decorated in bright Provencal colours, La Lavande is open plan and airy, with recently installed (very quiet!) air conditioning. In the lounge area, there are some very comfortable sofas and a TV /DVD player and the internet connection is generally excellent (great if you have to catch up on some work whilst away).

The house is also pretty accessible for our disabled son who is a full time wheelchair user. He can clamber into the bath for which the owner has very thoughtfully provided hand rails and there is a rail in the lavatory. Please note however there is no wet room. Our son especially enjoys being able to wheel in and out of the house and exploring outside. There are automatic gates which means the garden is very secure.

Outside is a fabulous covered terrace and unless the Mistral is blowing hard, you can enjoy the outdoors even if it is raining - cosy in the summer kitchen or cooking on the enormous bbq. The (regularly maintained) pool provides a welcome relief from the heat and a refreshing dip after a day out is always a must.

The compact garden is a riot of colour with roses and lavender; passion fruit creeper adorns the additional bedroom by the pool and the olive tree this year looked to have a healthy crop of olives. We had fun picking French beans and aubergine in the mini potager and if you need herbs to go with the produce you've bought at one of the (many) local markets, there is a lovely herb garden at the side of the house. Don't want to cook? Then you can walk to the village (about 10 minutes on foot) and sample the local bistro. Get in the car and the surrounding villages and towns have a wealth of restaurants offering a wide range of cuisine - the House Book and notice board offers information and advice on these if needed.

The house is extremely well placed in a small residential area on the outskirts of Sarrians - ideal for exploring Avignon and its environs as well as the beautiful countryside in the foothills of the Mont Ventoux. The village itself is not a tourist hub but a proper busy little French village (that boasts several boulangeries, a Lidl and a supermarket) so you'll need your French to order the croissants. You don't have to drive far to get to the Dentelles de Montmirail near Beaumes de Venises, the glories of the Palais des Papes in Avignon or the many other local attractions - there's even a new waterpark 10 minutes away. A day trip to the seaside is also perfectly possible. The TGV station with its direct Eurostar service from London is about 25 minutes away, the airport a little further.

La Lavande is the perfect holiday destination where you can for a week or so really enjoy French living (not to mention local French cuisine and exploring the countryside).

This was a lovely villa and so much more spacious than it looked in the photos. There were 8 of us (4 adults and 4 kids) so we had 2 adults and 3 kids in the main house and the 2 other adults and a baby in the pool house. Our host was really helpful before our stay and provided loads of info about the local area and places of interest and answered all our questions quickly. Nothing was too much trouble. On arrival, we found a chilled bottle of local rose awaiting us and some lovely lavender goodies from the local producers which was a really thoughtful touch. The local man who looks after the property for our host was also great and brought us a new gas bottle for the bbq and was readily available when/if we needed his assistance. The pool was lovely and much needed in the 40 degree heat and although the surrounding garden looks quite small, it was perfect and there was a nice outdoor bar and patio area for relaxing in the shade and you could still keep an eye on the kids from there. Tomatoes, courgettes, aubergines and a herb garden are all there for your use and all you need do in return is water them now and then. There is a small back garden where you can hang clothes out. We've rented holiday homes for a few years now and I must say that this one exceeded all our expectations; it was fully equipped with everything you could possibly need including picnic bags and ice packs for trips out and handy little notes here and there on how to use things. There was also a collection of books about the local area together with a folder put together by the hosts about suggested trips and local restaurants etc. Really, I dont think anything was left out. The local village of Sarrians is quite sleepy, but charming and we really liked the Bar Casino which was open most evenings/days where the lady owner is really welcoming and made a fuss of our kids despite speaking no English and us just scraping by with our school French. Could not have asked for a better place to while away 2 weeks in the sunshine!

We have just returned from a 1 week stay at La Lavande, if you're looking for a relaxing 'away from it all' break then this is a great place to do just that, but still within driving distance of some tourist attractions.

The villa to me was a typical french European property with a vintage feel, perhaps a little dated to some degree, but everything was in order and all mod-cons fully operational. We did have one small issue upon arrival in respect of the cot and high chair not being ready for us to use (the property manager had to go an purchase the high chair and mattress), however i suspect the next renters after us will not encounter the same issue. The highlight of the villa was of course the swimming pool, large enough to keep the 5 of us occupied and in the high heat of July the temperature was perfect - another bonus was the outdoor speakers they have configured, as it was nice to put some music on whilst dining outside or playing around in the pool.

Location wise the villa was great for any driving excursions, i think with the benefit of hindsight i might of gone for somewhere with more restaurants/bars within walking distance, however the local restaurant was very reasonable and the food was consistently good.

All in all this was a good holiday in a good villa.
