It is best enjoyed with a larger group and the facilities and accommodation are just perfect for the occasion. The pool, dining areas and large decks under shelter or the vines are so relaxing, and there is plenty of room for everyone. The village is very special, and so convenient to all leisure activities or exploring. The hosts are fantastic, and so much fun to be had in this very special place of French history and 17th ?? century architecture. You will not be disappointed.

La Petite Maison is a quirky house on a number of levels and was incredibly well-suited for our extended and 'blended' family. Plenty of space for everyone, and everything you could need in terms of facilities.
Outside, there's a lovely little private patio overlooking the pool area, and then down the steps you enter the shared garden with loads of seating - a huge table under the vine-laden pergola is perfect for those long slow lunches or just for unwinding and chilling after the day's activities. Then there's the pool which is saline-based, not chlorine, so no irritated eyes or skin.
The nearest wine cooperative (with drinkable rosé at about 7 euros for FIVE litres!) is about half a mile away, but there are better wines to be had, still at incredible prices, all over the place.
The nearby town of Uzes has plenty going on, and through the summer there's rarely an evening when there isn't something happening either in Uzes itself or in one of the surrounding villages. Whilst we were there we saw live music in Uzes, a festival in a nearby village with the running of the bulls and more live music, and a night market in St Maximin itself - starting literally just outside the door of the accommodation, where local producers were selling their produce - and giving out samples too of course...
Plenty of outdoor activities locally - our favourite is the kayaking on the Gardon, taking in the 2000-year-old aqueduct at Pont du Gard - a relaxing 8km stretch of canoeing where you can stop and swim or have your packed lunch at any of hundreds of natural little beaches on the way.
You're probably trying to decide between a few properties that you're looking at - make sure you book this one if you possibly can - it really is fantastic and is thoroughly recommended.
Thank you to Amanda and Judy, the charming hostesses who were always ready with suggestions and help during our stay - we will be back!

I was lucky enough to join some friends here for a few days who have rented the petite maison for 3 months. I had a lovely Moroccan room near the front door one of four available in the property. The bedrooms are well spaced apart in different areas of the house - one above me directly with one bathroom and two others plus a second bathroom up a different staircase near the back of the property. Everything was provided and the living/dining area off the fully equipped kitchen was cosy. Out the back door led to a wonderful series of terraces with a huge dining table and overlooked the pool and the garden which went down a number of levels and gave a lovely outlook. The proprietor Amanda was warm and welcoming and we seemed to have everything we needed. Can recommend. Interesting that every review here mentions the irrepressible Amanda and that says something. One of life's lovely characters.

A perfect place for a quiet relaxing holiday where Amanda, our charming and helpful hostess, was on hand to offer suggestions and advice for whatever we asked of her.

St Maximin is a quiet village, so we found a car to be essential as even a walk to the local boulangerie and supermarché in the summer heat would knock you out for the day. Having a car opened up a wealth of opportunities as there is so much to do in the surrounding area - visiting markets and festivals (the Saturday market in Uzes is a must – get there early!), walking and kayaking, exploring the ancient towns of the Gard area and swimming in the rivers. The kayaking was a highlight – there were seven of us ranging in age from 9 to 40-something; it's another must-do – although battling the wind as it was funnelled through the Pont du Gard arch was an experience – perhaps don't pick a breezy day!

The location and facilities of this well-furnished and comfortable house gave us the opportunity to have lazy pool days interspersed with activity and exploration days, and along with the virtually permanent sunshine it meant that everybody in our party had a fabulous holiday that will be remembered for a long time.

If we don't return here, it'll only be because we decided just to move to the area! Don't bother looking at other properties – this is the one you want :)

The "tips" for writing a review suggest describing "the service" but staying in Petite Maison felt more like staying with friends or family than a hotel-style service! The atmosphere was essentially just help yourself and/ or ask if you are unsure.

The property was charming & the outdoor living & entertaining area were lovely spaces to socialise with the other guests.

While St Maximin itself is a very small town, the close 5- 10 minute drive to Uzes was very handy & lots of other attractions of Provence are within 2 hours drive away. The amenities at Petite Maison were adequate considering the historic age of the building.

For me the best was the out door pool & terrace areas for getting together with the group or just relaxing & reading. I least liked the little bitey insects and would have started with serious application of insect repellant on the first day if I realised!
