And at the Maison Rose, you will. This is a fantastic somewhat remote location. The winding road to get to Cipieres is very narrow and twisty. If you like to drive you will love that road. If you do not, follow the advice of a fellow traveler and drive up once and park until the drive back down. I am in the former group and was called on to ferry people on daily excursions. I digress. Our eclectic group of 16 took the main house and the rest of the apartments. We loved the pool and deck area and it was our main meeting place. The kitchen is well stocked equipment wise, we brought food and cooked for several large group meals. Cipieres itself is tiny with only two restaurants a small outside pizzeria and a tiny store. You have to drive to close by towns like Vance to get supplies.

However Cipieres and environs are beautiful, a rugged terrain with many wildflowers and sparse trees. We took daily walks along well marked and documented trails. Lovely! As noted the beds are comfy and the temp in the summer is warm but not too hot. This is a great place to get away from it all. Internet is not too great though, but then again you did say you wanted to get away fro it all.

We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment at Maison Rose in January, as we were skiing in nearby Greolieres. The apartment was immaculately clean, warm and comfortable. Part of it had been recently renovated - so the master bedroom and bathroom, plus the guest w.c. is now finished to a high standard. The rest of the apartment was not renovated at the same time, however it is very welcoming and well equipped. There is a large terrace overlooking the mountains, which was a real sun trap, even in January. The rooms are spacious, the beds are super comfy, and the showers excellent.

Please don't be put off by comments about the road up to Cipieres - it is a typical winding mountain road, but if you don't drive too fast it does not feel alarming to drive on it in my opinion! And once you are there you have all the benefits of being up in the mountains - fresh air, beautiful views, great walks and proximity to Greoliers ski station during the winter months.

It is a minute's walk to the little square, where there is a lovely restaurant (mainly open for lunch) and a small rather basic looking pizzeria that serves fab pizzas. There is also a little shop for basic provisions and fresh croissants every morning.

We liked it so much we have rebooked a week in February.

After a beautiful drive through the mountains we arrived at the authentic, un-commercialised village of Cipieres and an atmosphere of serenity. Maison Rose has luxurious bathrooms; superbly comfortable beds; a well equipped kitchen and a living area, which has sensuous slouchy sofas and an air of Bohemianism. The pool of course only adds to the feeling of luxury as it is heated - a huge bonus. Anne, the caretaker, lives nearby and is extremely helpful.

There are plenty of places to see: Vence; Grasse; St Jean-Cap-Ferrat; Beaulieu Sur Mer - the list goes on. For us, however, one of the best aspects of our stay was to be able to turn right out of the gate and within a few minutes be walking along trails, which go on forever.

I can't fault the accommodation. It's clean, well-equipped, modern and comfortable. But there is a huge drawback - the location. It requires a white-knuckle, second-gear terrifying ascent up to the tiny village of Cipieres with steep drops on the side of the road and crazy locals driving dangerously fast. By the time you've got there there is no way you want to just 'pop' out for day visits, trips to supermarket etc and you'll certainly want to stay put after dark. We felt marooned and glad the accommodation was nice or the holiday would have been a disaster for us. It is certainly peaceful because there are few cars driving around the village - everybody seems to walk and nobody seems to venture far after dark. There were two other families staying at the villa and we were all marooned in Cipieres for most of the holiday as unnecessary travel was stressful rather than enjoyable. We all made a joke of repeatedly seeing one another in the local pizzeria because nobody wanted to venture further after dark. So don't book this if you think you are going to use it as a base for exploring the area and the coast, Nice, Cannes etc with meals out and about in the evening - because it's not enjoyable driving and touring is not really an option. The nearest beach of Cagnes is an arduous hour's drive away - not just any old drive but seriously challenging mountain driving. Even getting to the next village is arduous and a day out in itself. Thankfully there was a pizzeria and small shop in the village of Cipieres with its 360 inhabitants as we hardly dare venture out further. There is a restaurant but it was fully booked the whole time it opened and closed most days apart from Thurs, Fri and Sat - to eat there you'd need to phone ahead before you arrive. Because nobody leaves the village at night it looks as if this is where the locals all head at the weekend. It's a nice village but one of those where everybody stares - truly isolated. Ok for a couple of day but we were a bit stir crazy by the end. Again the property is fantastic - the pool is freezing but you kind of get used to it. But only book this if you can deal with a terrifying drive where you are tail gated by local drivers who think it's fine to overtake on hair-pin bends and live in fear of rocks falling on your hire car. I should have realised how isolated it was when we arrived and I looked for the normal pile of what's on in the area leaflets - there were none. Just a note telling you to go to the tourist info in Grasse - itself a 30 minute white-knuckle drive away - so that would be a day out in itself. Once you are out you can't relax either because of the drive that awaits you to get back to the holiday villa. Again if you just want to chill, slob out, stay in and watch the huge tv in this lovely place, swim and walk, hike...this is fine. But once you are there that's where you are likely to stay for the week.

Our week at Maison Rose was perfect! Lovely Spring weather combined with the fantastic mountain scenery provided a truly relaxing holiday. Christian, the caretaker, was really welcoming and helpful, even providing us with some of his own home grown vegetables!

The villa was very comfortable and thoughtfully equipped with everything we might need or want, including a huge kingsize bed apparently bought from the Savoy Hotel in London and even a games room with a pool table which the kids loved.

Cipieres itself was a great location to explore from and always a delight to return to but the kids were happiest swimming in the pool and exploring the village. We tried out the local bar/restaurant and Pizzeria both of which are worth a visit.

The mountain roads do take some getting used to but don't let that put you off visiting this wonderful region.

As long as you enjoy a lovely mountain drive and a quiet village, you will love this place. Although the village is quiet, it benefits from a nice restaurant and a pizza parlour who do really good pizza. The villa is great and we were fortunate enough to a couple staying there and enjoyed full benefit of the pool. The location suited us perfectly because although we enjoy travelling each day to various locations, we also look forward to returning to the peace of the village and watching the sunset. For us, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we would certainly recommend it to those who want to stay away from it all, whilst still being close enough to enjoy the surrounding area.
