“A seven year old villa and not new as advertised”

Reviewed 4 Sep 2017

I should start by explaining we are well travelled, rent villas regularly and we have stayed in Porto Colom several times so generally know what to expect. Villa was well equipped and the outside space is large and very practical for families. This was the best part of the stay and the reason it has theee stars rather than one or two. It was clean on arrival however be aware no cleaning or sheet changes are offered throughout your stay which on a two week stay was disappointing. There is also no actual pool cleaning other than chlorine added once a week. The villa is much more worn than pictured and whilst advertised as 'new' is actually seven years old, wear and tear is evident and cushions missing from outside furniture and only four loungers left in a villa that sleeps eight was a little dissapointing. The inside sofas and general furniture, flooring and fixtures were also well worn and faded. The air conditioning was the loudest and most rattly we have ever encountered, it did not make for a good night sleep in the hot weather! The location was more remote than expected, up a dirt track road with old rusted cars and a transit van directly outside the villa in the overgrowth, and surrounding villas have very noisy dogs. A little disconcerting when you arrive, we were lucky to arrive in the day rather than the night. You are two miles from the port so much too far to walk and part of it is main road without pavement so not suitable for families unless driving each evening. We had an issue where the washing machine eat some of our clothes and naturally we got in touch with Best Holiday Homes, they were atrocious and lacking in any customer service. The owner then turned up at the villa that afternoon with three friends in tow, they didn't even ring the gate they just opened it and drove in and were marching round in a very intimidating way. They essentially accussed us of lying despite the three items having drum marks and the filter covered in navy fluff from the material. They stood and put a wash of sheets on and waited for an hour talking and smoking which was very unsettling, which ultimately proved nothing. The whole thing was very upsetting and we just wanted them to leave. For this reason alone I wouldn't recommend either this villa and definitely not Best Holiday Homes. A company should be there to protect its guests and they definitely did not do that I would avoid them at any cost. I should add we are well travelled decent people who rent villas regularly and have stayed in Porto Colom (an area we love) many times, so we know what good looks like, this wasn't it!
