“Beautiful very private villa in a perfect location”

Reviewed 31 Aug 2016

We just spent 2 weeks and had a lovely time in El Portet. Having been to other parts of the Spanish coast this is a lovely place to go. El Portet has a beautiful cove with soft sand and tropical sea for easy swimming, and Moraira down the road was full of nice restaurants and boutiquey shops. We totally relaxed in the lovely house and loved how private it was. It's amazingly designed so you can see the sea from every room, and the main bedroom view was particularly lovely. We ate well everywhere in Moraira but the best meal we had was at La Maja in Altea (enroute to Alicante) - very special. Also recommend walking up to the castle above El Portet - gorgeous walk on the cliff path and the views are incredible

“amazing view... peaceful”

stayed at the villa for 2 weeks in June. the villa has the most amazing views, not over looked in any way loved the design, very clever, and very big, your dread your wife asking you to fetch some thing from the bedroom! stayed in 6 villa's in El portet and this was by far the best.I read with interest the negative comment left .... did we really stay at the same villa? loved it, and cant wait to return next year .

“Wonderful place!”

Our family had a wonderful holiday in Villa Mar Y Montana in El Portet. It was our second visit and this time we stayed during the Moors and Christians Festival which is a week-long and colorful carneval. Whilst it was lively and noisy in Moraira we enjoyed the utter peace of the villa in El Portet. On our pool terrace we had front line seats for watching the firework displays over the bay in Moraira. Magical. My husband and I love coming back to the villa. We like the authentic Spanish feel of it. With the reclaimed tiles and antique entrance door it resembles a Finca (Spanish country house), but it is a modern construction. Unlike so many villas which are bought and set up as letting villas, Mar Y Montana is a genuine private house with many individual touches. Thank you for sharing your very special villa with us. We will be back.

“Tranquil & Relaxing with Breathtaking Views”

My partner and I have recently returned from a weeks stay at the Mar Y Montana and we were not disappointed. We were welcomed to this lovely, quaint villa by the owner Jutta who was very friendly and accommodating during our stay. The villa itself is nicely tucked away at the top of a hill which ensured our stay was lovely and peaceful, and well equipped with everything we could possibly need. There is a beautiful beach with cafes and restaurants just a stroll away. The private pool area was spacious and complemented with loungers, an outside dining area and BBQ where many a relaxed nights were enjoyed on the terrace watching the sunset. If a relaxing holiday is what your looking for then we cannot recommend this Villa enough.

This is a repeat visit returning to Villa Villa Mar Y Montana in El Portet. All has been said before: we look forward for its peace and tranquility, to lie on the spacious terrace by the pool, only to see the mountains, the sea and the Ifach Calpe Rock. Solitude, quiet and wonderful scenery. As before, your luxurious villa had everything we could ask for. Stuart Smith and family

“A TRULY AWFUL EXPERIENCE!”

Reviewed 4 Jun 2015

Mar Y Montana is an older looking villa on different levels with views across numerous other villa rooftops to the hills and seawards towards Calpe. The approach from El Portet is an uphill 20 minutes walk. It wedged into a small plot on the hillside with other villas to the left, right and one villa directly abutting its small patio a few feet below. The advertised pictures are obviously taken not to disclose the closeness of this neighbouring villa from where cigarette smoke wafted up intermittently and into the lounge/dining room-yuk! There is only one very tight awkward parking place suitable for a small car. Internal furnishings were mainly old or antique in style. The general fabric was tired - two armchairs were covered up with white throws! The two pathetic bath towels were thin, well worn and frayed. The outside wooden chairs were rickety and there were no cushions that fitted the sun loungers. Disappointingly the Villa was in full shade when we arrived mid evening and no sun till 10.00 am next day. No basic welcome pack e.g. milk, bread or cheese, nor did the owner/manager volunteer this as a possible extra when we booked, knowing our eta of 8.30pm. There was a cheap bottle of fizz and some water in the fridge. The front small courtyard was littered with unswept leaves. The en suite shower had had low water pressure and took 5 minutes to run warm.No soap in either bathroom ( 2 not 3 as advertised) No air conditioning downstairs. Location misleadingly pinned to Google map. The villa necessitates climbing many different flights of steps and the external approach is via uneven wooden sleepers. Patio and internal railings are wonky and a health and safety hazard. There were many other defects. The owner/manager's dismissive, unhelpful attitude was truly scary and distressing - we left after two day! She said "I am not your servant go to a hotel if you need soap in bathrooms" She abrogated her responsibilities saying that she only normally allowed her friends to use the villa, yet it is widely advertised to the public on at least 4 separate web sites. Definitely not recommended, avoid.

Response from the owner I would like to answer the allegations made by the people who sent in the attached review. They left at my request after less than 2 days. I refunded them the remainder of their money, but they told me straight away that this was not the end of it. Below are the main points and my side of it: Older villa : our villa is a modern house, architect designed to resemble a Spanish finca and arranged to make use of the superb views Wedged into a small plot: factually wrong - 2000 m2 plot as opposed to the standard size in Moraira which is 800 m2 Villas left, right and one directly abutting: wrong - one villa on the left on the other side of the road and behind a 4 metre high hedge. Absolutely nothing on the right: no houses, just the green belt. House below us is 9 metres lower then our villa. We cannot see them and they cannot see us. Photos obviously taken not to disclose the closeness - libellous. The many photos on the website including one from the top of the mountain show exactly what there is. Awkward parking space by the house for 1 small - factually wrong again - enough space for the lorry which delivers gas to park and manoeuvre the 70 kg bottles. In addition unrestricted parking along our cul de sac. Furnishings mainly old...tired, 2 armchairs covered in throws! - Armchairs are handmade, white linen, unmarked and we provide white throws for them. What is the problem? Towels - a set of white towels were supplied. I check the linen. It is neither thin nor stained. PLUS, which the guests omitted to say - they were supplied with complementary large and new beach towels. Advertised as an extra. They were complementary to them. Cheap fizz and water - after the clients negotiated a £450 discount they were still not happy finding a bottle of chilled local ‘bubbly” and water in the fridge No sun for arrival — clients told me to wait for them and be there for their arrival at 8.30. When they arrived it was nearly 10. Even in Spain the sun does not shine at 10 pm Next morning no sun until 10 am - absolutely untrue. - The house is in full sun all day. Shower took 5 minutes to warm up - I have not taken a stop watch to check the time. It is true that it takes a moment for the hot water to cut in. Not due to low water pressure - our villa has the most up to date system to make sure there is unlimited hot water, supported by a pump to ensure equal pressure at all time - very unusual for Spain indeed. many flights of steps to climb - what a twisting of facts!. The villa is split level to allow the stunning view of the Mediterreanen and its beautiful coastline from everywhere. Of course there are steps to make that possible. Finally, the clients did not leave because they did not like the villa. They left at my request after 2 nights when I could see that nothing would ever please them. Jutta Whitley, owner

“Stunning villa with amazing views”

Reviewed 22 Jul 2014

My husband and I and our 3 grown up daughters have just returned from a weeks holiday staying in Mar Y Montana, The villa is stunning, wonderfully furnished and feels more like a home than a holiday let. It is well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The villa location is peaceful with the most breathtaking views which can be enjoyed from the secluded pool area and many of the rooms. El Portet and Moraira are a short drive away, both have beaches and Moraira has an abundance of restaurants catering for all tastes. Jutta, the Villa owner greeted us on our arrival and was very welcoming and most helpful. We absolutely loved this villa and would not hesitate in returning to it for another holiday. I think it would be hard to beat.

Also El Portet with its small sandy beach which we enjoyed as a family. 2 simple beach restaurants - plus the famous Dauphin restaurant which we treated ourselves to a very special night out which was very memorable This holiday and the Villa lived up to all the expectations and we hope to be returning to this Villa in the near future
