When we arrived at Villa Blanca we were blown away by the gorgeous outlook. The furnishings and presentation of the house were just like they looked in the pictures.
The staff greeted us warmly with flowers and placed lovely arrangements in every room.
The food prepared by Luh and the girls was fantastic. They cleaned the house each day and also did our laundry. Aside from meal time we didn't see the staff much at all, it would have been nice if they offered a little service during the day as we had to troupe out of the pool , through the living area into the kitchen to help ourselves to a drink and to return used glasses and rubbish. It did feel like we were intruding. Agus the gardener/poolman/security was fantasic, he enjoyed interacting with our children and it was peace of mind to know he was there all night.
I have read other reviews complaining about the air conditioning /heat of the house, sadly we could not spend much time in the lovely living area as it was just too hot, but we enjoyed being outside and eating in the lovely pavilion by the pool. The bedrooms were fully air conditioned and were fine for sleeping. It was great that beer, wine and soft drinks were provided for us to purchase, sadly the drinks fridge was kept at 14 degrees, too warm for beer! We did ask for it to be turned down but we were told it has to stay at 14.

This property is nestled among 4 other Villas in the secluded area of Emerald Bay Villas in Candidasa. We found this property and given the details of the listing were very excited about our upcoming trip. Keep in mind that the area is best known for Scuba diving an snorkeling. There are also many places to sight see (Volcano, Hindu Temple, Farms, villages etc) as well as local shopping. It seems to avoid many of the tourists traps one finds in areas like Kuta. But that also means it misses some of the conveniences. However, the scenery and charm of the area surpasses any negatives that one might want to attach with that. Now back to the property listing...

The property is listed as a 600 m2 (6,458sq/ft) 5 bedroom villa that sleeps 12 with modern conveniences. Cable TV, Hair dryers, washing machines, air conditioning, microwave etc. In this it is accurate to the letter. The architecture and decor is superb on first glance and any negative (Cracks in the tubs, outlets that do not work, loose floor planks) is made up for by the stunning views and the way the decor works with the surroundings.

All of the pictures for the listing are accurate and in reality are not nearly as pretty as what greets you in the morning. One could sit for hours sitting at the dinning pavilion and watch the surf for hours. In fact, as I write this I am pained to give the negatives of the place and why my recommendation is qualified with "As long as you know what you're getting".

The staff was very attentive and provided good meals and did their best to help with the heat... The highlight were breakfast and dinner as these were served at the pavilion overlooking the bay. Interaction with them was brief as they tended to stay out of the way. Except for when a couple of the groundskeepers happened upon my wife in the bathroom. The reason this happened is that the bathrooms are open to the outside. Which, in one way is very exotic and helps convey this sort of "my own sanctuary" feel except that while we there the bay had several large tankers and ferries docked in the bay. So the privacy of the bathroom was spoiled by a couple of the ships mates checking us out with high powered binoculars. Along with the "attentive" staff.

Other negatives include, mold in every room and on every curtain. This may or ay not be a big deal for some, but if you have allergies this might be a big deal- it was for me. The advertising of "air conditioning" is accurate in that there are units in each bedroom. There is none in the Great room and the kitchen and staff area is devoid. The grass roof is visually pleasing but this also means that all areas get very hot. So hot in fact that where there is air conditioning it is woefully insufficient. Rooms do not cool until almost 10 pm. And the humidity is constant because the roof is not sealed against the outside. Nor are the rooms effectively sealed to the great room so again, A/C is ineffective. To counter the heat, one can open all of the doors this can allow a breeze to travel through the house. This, for those with a higher enjoyment for camping will find refreshing. For me, because of my fair complexion, was hoping to have a respite from the sun and heat from time to time. Exhausting all measures to cool the house we resorted to opening everything up. This resulted in a slightly cooler great room but even hotter and damp bedrooms. We were also rewarded with a dog wandering through the house, that also felt the need to urinate on the floor. Fortunately, the dog only growled at us once and seemed to be friendly, but keep in mind that rabbis is rampant on the island... So you know, ruff-ruff.

There are many positives to this place, and I want to give it higher rating but the last and final straw was when we reached out to the owner for resolution on the cooling, dog, etc. only to be ignored.

I was willing to leave this place and rent a room for the remainder of my vacation. This was thwarted due to the local holiday (Nyepi). Which prohibits any work or travel.

So here's my recommendation, if you want stunning views, a great staff. Then this is the place. If you want more than this, I would avoid staying here. I personally will not stay at Villa Blanca again. Perhaps at one of the other Villas, but definitely not this one.
