Maya was stunning. I went with my 5 sisters for 6 nights and we each had our own sumptuous bedroom retreat. Bathrooms were outside with rain showers. The main pool is perfect. Comfortable sun loungers and plenty of sun or shade. Staff cooked our meals and made up rooms daily. We decided from their suggested menu daily and put in money as needed. Staff arranged for girls to come to massage us whenever we wished, although we weren’t very thrilled with the quality of service. They chatted on phones and to each other as they worked which was a little annoying and massages were a bit ordinary and quite rough. One day we went to Echo Beach for a sunset dinner. It’s about 20 minuets drive. We were driven by their driver who also took us to Canggu for a shopping day.
Having said that, there were a few things that would deter us from repeating our stay. It was quite remote. There was nowhere to walk to and the property has many steps to get to and from the rooms. We felt just slightly unsafe at night which surprised me as I’m not a nervous type. We were quite spread out from each other which would probably be a plus if you were staying as couples in the rooms. There is constant noise from roosters, pigs and dogs barking. It’s in a village setting and it’s to be expected. The surroundings are very stunning and staff were friendly. We had a 2 meter iguana hop in the pool for a swim one day. It’s set right on a river which gave the place a distinct musty smell.
If you’re with a group of friends and want to relax, read and swim for a few days I would highly recommend it. Just take earplugs for the roosters.

We were so looking forward to staying at Villa Maya Retreat. We stayed at 2 villas before this one on our trip and this villa was more expensive and was meant to top off our holiday. Unfortunately for us it failed to deliver on many levels.
Whilst the photos on here and the website look great they are not to be believed.
The whole villa needs an update and a deep clean. The covers on the sofas and chairs are old and stained. The covers on the sun loungers outside the rooms are filthy and very badly stained. The TV in the lounge is old and when we arrived, it was not even working.
What upset me most was having to put my children to bed in bedsheets covered in yellow stains. When the staff remade the bed the next morning, they left the same stained sheets on there. There are broken lamps, lamps with no bulbs, lights that don't work and curtains that not only have the what seems to be trade mark yellow stains but also dirt and mould growing on them.
The bathrooms were just gross. The toilets were stained brown and looked as if they hadn't been cleaned in months. My bath was stained and my shower head was filthy and covered in limescale. Most of the sinks were missing their plug fittings and the bath in my children's bedroom was thick with dust. All the floors needed a seriously good mop if not steam clean.
An infant crib was provided for my niece which was wooden and traditional which is fine but not when the metal on the crib is rusted!
The kitchen is VERY basic and also not particularly clean. We also saw that the staff were leaving leftover food in the utility cupboard.
If this hasn't put you off then look forward to the gaggle of cockerels who crow constantly and not just in the morning. The dawn chorus is something else, as the neighbours pigs also join in with the cockerels and it sounds as if they are being slaughtered. This also happens again later in the afternoon when the pigs are being fed.
There was nothing "retreat" about this villa at all. After one night we complained to Elite Havens who visited the villa to personally address our concerns. They saw the evidence for themselves and moved us to a new villa within 2 hours.
I'm sure when this villa was new it would have been stunning but it badly needs a facelift and a deep clean. I'm not sure if I can post pictures to support my review but if I can, then I certainly will.

Thank you for taking the time to provide a review of your stay at Villa Maya Retreat. On behalf of the villa owners and Elite Havens, we are truly sorry for your disappointment. We have noted your comments and commenced implementing improvements for the aspects we can control and have changed the management of the villa to ensure ongoing improvements. Villa Maya Retreat is in a natural village location chosen for its nature and we understand this can include an array of bird and animals sounds. We hope you enjoyed the remainder of your holiday in Bali.

Aloha!
Our group from Hawaii was FLOORED by this villa. 12 adults, ages 30-60 all fell in love. The pictures are REAL guys!

Made and Chica, the whole staff in fact, pampered us... but in such a familial way! They went above and beyond to ensure our comfort, as well as our overall Bali experience. They communicated with drivers/ tour coordinators / spa therapists for us. The made sure we always had a ride and a meal available.

I rented another villa for the remaining 4 members of our group. The differences were there, but both Elite Havens properties exceeded expectation.

Villa Maya Retreat was more comfy, family style; not just in decor/space needs, but also food and service style. Our meals at Maya Retreat were prepped for a group, and were a little less refined than our compatriots at Villa Canggu Terrace (they ordered individually, and had restaurant-worthy food presentation). Always yummy, tho! And the decor of Canggu Terrace was a bit more elegant.
These are simply style differences; again, BOTH villas were amazing, and BOTH of these luxurious styles are GREAT! :)

I will ALWAYS recommend this service, and these two villas specifically. I also highly recommend the Babi Guling dinner experience. Hire the performers! 15 instruments and 6 dancers performed in our living room... at less than US$300!

Mahalo to everyone at Elite Havens.

Villa Maya is ideal if you want time out any are happy to just veg. The staff are super helpful and nothing is too much trouble. In-house dining options are plentiful and tasty although we preferred to take advantage of the van and head out for dinner on a few nights. Suggest ordering the suckling pig and the whole market fish as a special dining treat.
We followed up our 7 night stay at Maya with 5 nights in Seminak which I think was a good balance if you want some time-out but a real taste of Bali.

The Villa is amazing with so many places to sit and relax and plenty of little nooks with statues, gardens and ponds. It was so relaxing that time seemed to stand still and none of us wanted to leave. The staff; Made, Cika & Kedak were wonderful the whole time. Made assisted us with all of our needs including shopping and driving us where we wanted to go. Cika and Kedak cooked some amazing meals for us every day. Bali omelettes for breakfast and Chika’s Chicken Curry were our groups favourites. The Villa is spacious and well laid out with each bedroom having its own privacy and outdoor bathroom. Three of the rooms had their own plunge pools and the main pool was so inviting deep and warm. The young adults spent many hours just floating in the pool. As previously mentioned the villa is away from Bali’s popular spots. Made was always happy to drive us wherever we wished to go, but allow at least 40 mins to get anywhere. We had a special celebration during our visit and Made arranged a Balinese dance troupe to give us a private performance as well as a delicious suckling pig. The staff also decorated the Villa with flowers and balloons. I highly recommend Villa Maya Retreat and hope I have another opportunity to visit such a wonderful place.

Plenty of space and plenty of privacy as well as common areas for groups. The staff was lovely and the food they prepared was excellent; they did a great menu for kids too (chicken nuggets are to die for). It is good to give them a heads up into what you want as much in advance (1 day) as possible. They were great in getting us whatever we needed/wanted for food/drinks, but I suspect it might have been a bit of a trek to get supplies. We hired additional babysitters and massage therapists which the manager assisted in arranging. The alfresco (covered) dining was great - we spent a lot of time there and the living room was great in the evenings; it was well stocked with videos. There are many water features which add greatly to the atmosphere, but good to have extra eyes for little ones. Pool is deep which is great for adults, but does require supervision for kids. Highly recommended for groups.

I booked the villa for a birthday. The birthday girl had been to Bali once before and was not impressed. I kept the villa concept a surprise and dragged her dubiously back to Bali. It was a long drive at night into the depths of nowhere. We arrived and were greeted by the manager Made. He escorted us down a winding pathway of steps and into the general dining area that overlooked the pool and gardens. The birthday girl was overwhelmed, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. Her favourite singer was playing as requested, special attention to the decorations in her room. The ambience is tropical Bali with a luxury signature. The villas are separated giving privacy if required. The rooms are huge with relaxing areas inside and out. Bathrooms typical Bali style. There are 3 'rooms' - lounge, dining and outdoor 'happy hour' seating area. Large pool and individual private pools. Believe the website! The staff are friendly, professional, there for you with a smile on their face. The staff sourced the extra fad foods we required and alcohol when we ran out of our duty free, at Australian prices! The gardens relaxing and beautiful. Highly recommend it.

We just returned from a week at Villa Maya and cannot recommend it highly enough. It's outstanding. The photos on the website don't do it justice. Very peaceful, serene and luxurious. The layout of the property is great, particularly if you have a larger group--we had 7. It has plenty of private areas for people to hang out and rest/read if they wish, and great "community" space in the living room and around the pool. Three of the suites have plunge pools, which is awesome. We particularly liked the fact that all of the bedrooms had king sized beds. The staff is particularly great. The cook is very talented and funny. Made, the villa manager, is tops. The villa is in a quiet village, which gives a good "local" experience, but it's not "in the mix", so if you want a location where you can walk out to bars or restaurants, this is not the place for you. However, the airport, Seminyak and Ubud are all within an hours drive.

We were there for a 50th birthday getaway and the staff pulled together an amazing party: suckling pig, marigold flower leis for each of us, ordered a western style birthday cake, decorated the property with flags and marigold necklaces on the many statues on the property and arranged for a gamelon orchestra and traditional dancers from the local village. Memories for a lifetime. Bottom line: the place is awesome.
