Villa Bumi was perfect and just what we were looking for. With a quick relaxing trip (only 5 nights) we were looking for somewhere close to the action of Seminyak yet somewhere to provide a retreat for when we needed to get away from the hustle and bustle. This villa was perfect.
Our idea of a holiday was to eat out at nice restaurants every night, find some nice cocktail bars, maybe fit in a day trip, go surfing and SHOP. The location was ideal.
Amazing restaurants nearby, Metis, Sardine, Merah Putih, Mamasan just to name a few.
We tried booking a taxi once, however found it too difficult to navigate over the phone with the driver. We quickly learnt that getting a taxi at the top of the alley was extremely easy and we never waited longer than 3 minutes. A taxi from seminyak square only ever cost around 20,000 ($2aud) but getting a taxi to the square from the villa was always 50 000 ($5Aud) (we had a few drivers asking for 200 000-100 000 but a quick laugh with each other and you easily negotiated 50 000)

We arrived late at night, and must admit, when our driver pulled down a bumpy dark alley we all gave each other a worrying look "where are we going?". but then as we walked to the villa and the doors opened, the lights turned on, a little oasis appeared from no where.
All the boxes were ticked
Great pool - Big enough to get the morning laps in
Comfy beds - the air conditioning in the bedrooms worked great
two toilets - the one nearest the pool was great for when you are jumping In and out and didn't want to get the floors wet
Fully equipped kitchen

Wayan - she was fantastic. We had a cooked breakfast every morning of pancakes, eggs, fresh fruit and bacon. She would even whip up a different smoothie each day. it was delicious! Although Wayan was there servicing the villa from 8-11 each morning it never felt like she was intruding or that you had to tip toe around. She was a delight and would happily help with any requests.

The grounds were immaculate and really made you feel like you were in a tropical paradise.

The ONLY negatives - The polished concrete floor gets EXTREMELY slippery, so make sure to keep towels at the doorways to wipe your feet. We were in and out of the pool all day and there were a few crazy dance moves trying to stop yourself from slipping

There was no iron, and although I am sure Wayan would have taken care of this if asked, it would have been good to iron something that you decided to wear last minute.

So really the negatives are so minor it nearly didn't warrant the effort of typing...

I loved this Villa, and can not wait to come back with more friends.

I'm a bit a a researcher, and I spent a good many hours looking for the PERFECT villa for my partner, my sporty mother, myself and our one year old baby for a nine day stay around Seminyak.

When I saw the photos of Bumi I was sold. When you start looking at Villas in Bali many look amazing, but when you REALLY think about it, a great deal are just ok. They have that impersonal hotel style interior design (or worse). I realised after quite a bit of looking that I wanted to be in an environment in which I thought, "This place is seriously cool," (being a creative person with a love of beautiful surroundings). And Villa Bumi is like that. It's seriously cool.

We had a pool fence (made out of bamboo, which was really awesome - I was worried about some ugly metal bars but they were natural, and fit very well, if only we were allowed the same for pools in NZ!) We also had a driver. Both were invaluable. Our baby (just walking) would certainly have had a dive down the stairs/pool if not for the fence! Putu our driver was young, friendly and cool. You need a car to get into Seminyak and Kuta or just down the road to the seriously beautiful restaurants Metis or Sardine. Putu was great in that he knew what you wanted and where to take you, very usefully if you don't want to spend your stay trying to find the best shop/cafe/spa as he'll just take you there with no pre organising!

However if you need to stay in (because, say, your baby is sleeping!) then you can order in takeaways, there is a green/black menu at Bumi and dinner for four hungry adults was $16NZ. And the food was good! Also a lovely Italian restaurant did delivery, Pizza Rustica (we met the female Italian owner, awesome, authentic and priceless - pizza amazing and the tiramisu!)

The only problem is getting drivers to the Villa, which is not particularly easy to find, especially if you don't speak the lingo and are trying to explain with really little knowledge of where you actually are! However I think if you gave Benjamin or Dolla a ring they would contact the delivery place for you to explain the Villas position.

Regarding not having anything near for food, not quite true. It depends if you are willing to walk for 10ish minutes. The road is certainly not easy going, as there are no footpaths and howling dogs, motorbikes all around etc. But really, we're in Bali people! Get out a bit! Anywho, a short if tiring walk will get you to two beautiful little restaurants, Sushiaria and Nook. Both sitting besides beautiful rice fields and stunning to visit. Metis and Sardine I mentioned are certainly worth going to but one should drive as they are more upmarket and worth putting on a bit of flash (ie high heels etc)!

Wayan was our housekeeper at Bumi, she cooked us breakfast every morning (and a few lunches at our request). She was sweet and lovely, with a kind spirit and easy going nature. She was ultra helpful finding me speciality shopping like nappies, wipes and specific baby food. It's way easier to ask her to shop for lovely tropical fruit and other food as she knows whats good, whats ripe and whats cheap! Our breakfasts were huge and coffee fulled and set us up very well for hours in the beautiful garden in the sun and stunning pool, interspersed with a couple of hours out with the driver for lunch (La Lucciola on the beach, yum!) shopping or just exploring around.

There are bugs, frogs, a few mossies, bees, bats, birds, gekos and other things that go ":&)%)(*_+!!(* in the night, which for us was all part of the charm. I think (for children especially) staying in a hotel you would miss out on this part of Bali (basically the bit that makes it the tropics), the heat, verdant flora and fauna, the pure fecundity of nature. Really amazing!

Our family are keen to come back to Bali for a whole month, and hopefully for a few years after that! Certainly our lovely stay had something to do with this. My partner and mother both said they'd want to come back to Bumi, that's how much they loved it.

Villa Bumi is Quirky but absolutely fabulous. We had a wonderful week here as it was so quiet and beautiful. The boys had a fun time in the pool and we loved all the relaxing and comfortable little spots to watch them from. The pool is a beautiful temp as it gets some sun but is still very refreshing.
Wayan is amazing! She makes a fantastic breakfast and if she offers to make you lunch one day take her up on it! She even took on some extra hours and babysat for us a few nights so we could have some evenings out.
While it is close to Seminyak and only takes a few minutes to get to most of the restaurants (when the traffic is good), there is nothing really in walking distance.
All the rooms open up to an open air courtyard and there is no real indoor area just the undercover kitchen and living area. The bedrooms were all lockable and around the courtyard, while both my boys and I were comfortable with this, a family with younger children may not be.
We loved Villa Bumi.

Villa bumi is by far the best place I've stayed in bali. From the moment I walked in i was in awe. It looks even better in real life. The location couldn't have been more perfect, such a piece of paradise amongst all the hussle and bussle. It's one of those places where you can't stop saying "this place is awesome" every 2 seconds. I literally cannot find words to express how amazing it is. Benjamin and his team made it all to easy and stress free, they had everything ready and organised even if it was last minute. From wayan the house keeper to the gardeners everyone was just so lovely, happy and accommodating. I wish i stayed longer, no other place really compared after. My bf, friends and i really missed the place after we left. It really was a home away from home...maybe even better ;) . Definitely recommend this place 100% if you want to be away from all the noise yet 5 min scooter from all the shopping and all you can eating goodness then this is the place to be. I'll definitely be coming back every time i come to bali!!! :)

Tucked away behind a tiny village a serene paradise awaits. The moment you walk through door and see the beautiful pool and grounds you immediately relax- then want to jump in the huge pool! We loved Villa Bumi for the entire 10 days we stayed. The compound is huge with it's 3 comfortable bedrooms, open lounge/ kitchen area, separate open dining area and amazing pool. The style isn't opulent like a hotel but more Bali funky loungy which makes you feel right at home. It lies between a rice field and other villas away from the main road and it's just so peaceful. Wifi through out the villa and grounds worked perfectly and it has a huge TV in the open lounge area which is where we spent most of our time. (None in the rooms.)
Wayan (the housekeeper) was wonderful and couldn't have been more helpful. She made us breakfast when we asked and she refreshed everything daily as if we'd just arrived. (She does such a great job so we made sure we always tipped her well for doing our washing etc-which was always perfectly done I might add!)
Benjamin (the owner) was always available and accommodating with the Bali mobile supplied. He emailed a list of food shopping that we could choose from before we arrived and the properly equipped kitchen with it's drinking/boiling water dispenser were of high quality. It's a 10 minute taxi ride from Seminyak but so worth it and a taxi was only a phone call away. When you call a taxi it's a minimum 30.000 or $3 but it's easier this way as trying to hail one can be difficult. The photos are up to date and truly reflect the villa. If you want a secluded, peaceful and beautiful villa away from the craziness of Seminyak ,but still only 10 mins from the restaurants, then this is it. As it's all open you'll have ants, geckos and mosquitos galore but Benjamin provides repellant and in the bedrooms a plug in nighttime repellant which worked perfectly.\
