We had the most amazing time at Marina Villas in Amed. Contact with Marina, who we did not meet in person, went smoothly. She had arranged for a driver to pick us up at the airport (3 hour drive), and we found him easily in the sea of drivers in the arrivals hall. The accommodation is superb and beautiful. Marina's staff is excellent, professional but still personal, and manager Kadek is also a great cook, so we had all our dinners there. The breakfast is also wonderful, lots of choice, and it was brought to our room each morning. As it has only 3 units (of which we occupied 2), the whole experience was very personal and we felt right at home. The staff also drove us to the better snorkel beaches which are too far to walk, but there is also a nice beach in front of the villas; great to watch the sun rise here. Everything is kept super clean, with beautiful decorative touches in the rooms and around the pool area lovingly arranged every day. The beds are very comfortable and it was so great to watch the birds overhead from the open air shower. We did not want to leave! Go to Amed when you want the laid-back Bali experience and go to Marina Villas if you want the most wonderful place to stay. Perfect combination.

An unbelievably beautiful accommodation with an incredible amount of detail. The villa and the interiors are practically new, authentically decorated and extremely clean. Marina was very helpful and introduced me around, I was able to discover the beauties of this place and am grateful to have found an oasis of calm. Kadek & crew. have spoiled me, breakfast was served daily with attention to detail and the friendliness of the team was "outstanding". I was able to book excursions on the spot and Kadek & team took care of everything. I will definitely return - there are few places where I felt so comfortable.

At the time that we stayed at Bali Marina Villas the reception area was not quite complete, but the beautiful gardens and the complex of the three separate villas were completed and were in perfect condition. The photographs on the website accurately reflect the very luxurious and tasteful environs of the site - the beautiful frangipani flowers and the elegant bedrooms with teak surrounds. The service from Kadek who serves as a sort of Maitre d' and seems to be able to do everything from cook to concierge was fantastic. The pictures of his fruit creations and cocktails bring back memories of a very pleasant few days' stay for us. The rental term seems to be flexible - because of touring around we were unable to stay for a whole week, but this didn't seem to be a problem. As the description of Amed says, the majority of properties in the area are not as high-end as this one and cater for holidaymakers who want to relax, and particularly divers. This villa complex would suit anybody from a honeymoon couple to a small group of friends/families. It would not be ideal for small children because of the steps up to the villas and because of the pool, which is unsupervised. This suited us particularly well, because we were able to enjoy complete privacy. In the other hotels nearby there are friendly staff, good bars, and good restaurants. The nearest restaurant and bar is the hotel literally across the street! About half a mile away (I can't remember the distance exactly) there is a small supermarket. The staff always seemed to be able to find a car, or a motorbike, or give us a lift if we wanted to shop, go elsewhere to eat, or go a little further along the coast where the coral reef is even better than the one across the road. All in all this was a heaven sent escape from the cares of the real world for us after a long plane journey and a spot of hectic activity sightseeing elsewhere in Bali. Although not that far from the South coast, the state of the Balinese roads makes it a rather long journey from the airport, but the plus side of that is that it is really blissfully rustic on this area of the East coast, cheaper than other places, and more relaxed. We had a great time. The Swiss lady who owns the complex was there when we visited, but essentially the Balinese staff can and will do everything for you. Enjoy!
