the good stuff: Eric the owner was a very helpful and kind host and couldn't have been nicer. the views are lovely; the location right on the lake shore was great. The lido/garden/bbq area all really nice. The room sizes/ceiling heights were good.
The villetta consists of one room on the lower level containing kitchenette in an alcove, sofa(bed), table & 4 chairs and sideboard. Perfectly adequate but not luxury finishes/furniture/decor if that's what you are expecting. Was clean, wifi worked, kitchen well-equipped particularly in comparison to other places we've seen/stayed in italy.
There's then a narrow metal spiral staircase to the upper floor which contains your bedroom, balcony and toilet/shower.
The not so good stuff:
Access: BEWARE if you have any mobility issues/vertigo. the access in from the main access road is very narrow, very steep and scary. The first time, we couldn't actually believe this was it and stopped and got out of the car to check we were in the right place. once you park at the bottom of this access road, you're then maybe halfway there: you then go on to an external elevator which brings you to the upper garden, from there you walk down ramps, then couple of flights of steps to a public alleyway behind the property. You could not do this with any person with mobility issues. While we were there another elevator was being commissioned to bring from upper garden to lower garden. However, all this really causes you to think how much do you really need that milk/coffee and so you tend to leave and return just once a day. You will need to request assistance with your luggage down and back up on leaving and there is on-site help to do this.
The spiral staircase is awkward and feels unsafe, particularly if you're travelling with children, the spacing between verticals was very wide and in one case at the top, missing entirely. We couldn't get our luggage up there but Mohammed the onsite assistant was able to do it for us.
The sound insulation between apartments is very poor and the first morning after our arrival, our british neighbours quickly communicated how they could hear 'everything' from our bathroom with repeated emphasis on the 'everything'. . . Turns out our bathroom was right behind the head of their bed. At this point we had another 4 nights to go so felt very self-conscious and a bit annoyed that we had to deal with this on our long-waited holidays. We did communicate the problem to eric the next time we saw him and he said they were aware of the issue and planned to do something about it during the winter closing of 2013/2014.
Distinct lack of plugs in the bedroom.
We had booked from their website pics/info and there was nothing on that ref the awkward access/distance from the road and village. There was some brief description on the booking confirmation email but too late by then and the reality was worse. To be honest, it was fine - not great/memorable - just fine. I guess I was expecting a more upmarket product based on the website content. Would we go again? Probably not. Eric was lovely, the views were lovely but the awkwardness of access would put us off.
