“FABULOUS HOLIDAY”

Reviewed 26 Sep 2017

A wonderful location with stunning views to wake up to! Ideally situated between Como and Bellagio so great for exploring, though the narrow roads are a challenge! The steep drive down from the road to the Villa car park is frankly scary, and although there is an excellent glass cliff-side elevator, it doesn't quite reach the bottom, so hard work with suitcases and groceries! The owner (Eric) and Jennifer were really helpful though-- nothing too much trouble. Overall, a beautiful peaceful holiday!

Response from the manager Thank you for choosing to stay with us at the Lake Como Beach Resort. We appreciate all your kind words and look forward to your return. Cio from Como! Eric, Robin and Jennifer

“Spectacular Spot on Lake Como”

This is a little place of heaven on Lake Como. It has amazing views and a peaceful, homey feel, We loved it! Located in the small village of Pognana Lario, it is in a good location on the lake. Ferry stop near a lake path & local bus up the hill. Cute grocery store with in walking distance complete with butcher shop. 2 restaurants to walk to with lake views. The bedroom is reached by a spiral staircase with wonderful balcony & view of the lake. Kitchen & table downstairs. We had 2 alfresco dinners on lawn with open views of the lake. Boat rental near by. Bellagio up the lake & a short ferry or bus ride away. Eric, the owner, did everything possible to make us welcome. Lobby has helpful books & maps of area & honor coffee bar. Note that there is steep driveway to get to place. I would not suggest a car. Study ferry & bus schedules to get around. Would highly recommend and can;'t wait to go back!

Response from the manager Thank you for your very kind review. We look forward to your return. Ciao from Lake Como! Eric and Robin

“Fantastic”

Wonderful holiday spent at The Como Beach Resort. Spent a glorious 10 days relaxing in the garden, enjoying the spectacular views from our villa and sun bathing on the decking with direct access to the lake. When we felt the inclination to be more energetic we took relaxing dips in the lake, hired a speed boat and took a waterbus to the villages around Lake Como. Milan is only an hour away and well worth a visit with the added advantage of Milan Expo 2015 being only a short drive/metro stop away and was the one of the highlights for our teenagers. We will definitely be returning. Eric and Robin were wonderful hosts and make our holiday very special.

Response from the manager It was a real pleasure to have you and your lovely family stay with us at the Lake Como Beach Resort. We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay and look forward to having you back. Ciao from Lake Como! Eric, Robin and Jiselle

“Great views and location”

Spent a week at Lake Como Beach Resort and had a great time. First time down driveway was an adventure to say the least but was fine once you get the hang of it! Owner Eric and his daughter could not have been more welcoming and helpful the day of our arrival.Mohamed the grouds keeper was charming and very helpful with the luggage which could be a chore. Would highly recommend this place for a nice relaxing visit to Lake Como area.

“Wonderful swimming for families, perfect environment to soak up”

We are a family of 4, with children aged 10 and 12. To make the most of the lakeside position it's great, if like ours, your children make friends and want to swim and muck around off the jetty . The position is stunning; I'm so glad we were out of the bigger towns, yet close enough by boat and bus. No review would be complete without mention if the marvellous hosts Eric and Robina, their business thrives under their caring management.

“very enjoyable - with reservations”

the good stuff: Eric the owner was a very helpful and kind host and couldn't have been nicer. the views are lovely; the location right on the lake shore was great. The lido/garden/bbq area all really nice. The room sizes/ceiling heights were good. The villetta consists of one room on the lower level containing kitchenette in an alcove, sofa(bed), table & 4 chairs and sideboard. Perfectly adequate but not luxury finishes/furniture/decor if that's what you are expecting. Was clean, wifi worked, kitchen well-equipped particularly in comparison to other places we've seen/stayed in italy. There's then a narrow metal spiral staircase to the upper floor which contains your bedroom, balcony and toilet/shower. The not so good stuff: Access: BEWARE if you have any mobility issues/vertigo. the access in from the main access road is very narrow, very steep and scary. The first time, we couldn't actually believe this was it and stopped and got out of the car to check we were in the right place. once you park at the bottom of this access road, you're then maybe halfway there: you then go on to an external elevator which brings you to the upper garden, from there you walk down ramps, then couple of flights of steps to a public alleyway behind the property. You could not do this with any person with mobility issues. While we were there another elevator was being commissioned to bring from upper garden to lower garden. However, all this really causes you to think how much do you really need that milk/coffee and so you tend to leave and return just once a day. You will need to request assistance with your luggage down and back up on leaving and there is on-site help to do this. The spiral staircase is awkward and feels unsafe, particularly if you're travelling with children, the spacing between verticals was very wide and in one case at the top, missing entirely. We couldn't get our luggage up there but Mohammed the onsite assistant was able to do it for us. The sound insulation between apartments is very poor and the first morning after our arrival, our british neighbours quickly communicated how they could hear 'everything' from our bathroom with repeated emphasis on the 'everything'. . . Turns out our bathroom was right behind the head of their bed. At this point we had another 4 nights to go so felt very self-conscious and a bit annoyed that we had to deal with this on our long-waited holidays. We did communicate the problem to eric the next time we saw him and he said they were aware of the issue and planned to do something about it during the winter closing of 2013/2014. Distinct lack of plugs in the bedroom. We had booked from their website pics/info and there was nothing on that ref the awkward access/distance from the road and village. There was some brief description on the booking confirmation email but too late by then and the reality was worse. To be honest, it was fine - not great/memorable - just fine. I guess I was expecting a more upmarket product based on the website content. Would we go again? Probably not. Eric was lovely, the views were lovely but the awkwardness of access would put us off.

“paesaggio incantevole”

“Great for families, well appointed rooms and private lake access”

Reviewed 6 Aug 2012

Eric is super friendly and operates a very laid back, peaceful villa, private enough but with a nice communal atmosphere. The villa is right on the lake with a private shady lawn, sand-deck and a pier providing lake access. The villa was well decorated, clean and perfect for our family with young girls, a good kitchenette with all dishware and a nearby shop made cooking easy. Plenty of restaurants along the road. A common room is well stocked with books, movies and toys for the kids to play with. The villa is best accessed by ferry with a short, flat walk to the dock. Ample car parking is provided but the driveway down from the main road is for confident drivers only. There is a big height difference between the lake and carpark/road served by an elevator. Excellent location for lake activities, road cycling, close enough to Bellagio.

I really haven't much to say. We've been to Northern Italy several times before, but never visited the Como area. Our first stay in Pognana Lario was definitely a success, and we'll most likely be back next year.
