Upon arrival into the house the realtor did not have correct key and had to return to the office as we waited outside the house, not a big deal! As we all entered we noticed the house smelled very musty, as though it had been closed up for quite some time. We did not realize all of the children bedrooms(not masters) are in the basement. There is a very strong odor of mildew! There is a small dehumidifier that we plugged in and had to empty every few hours. They should probably invest in something a little more appropriate. There are no real windows anywhere down there that can be opened to help and air out. Also, we had a huge amount of spiders and large webs in all of the corners. Obviously, this did not sit well with all of the teenagers, especially girls. The rental office had called me the previous day to inquire about my arrival time-we were right on schedule so they should have had the house prepared! As for the outside area. The pool was green and had not been cleaned. There was a lot of trash around the back patio area along with some broken furniture and a filthy grill, with empty charcoal bags all around. Please know--the VIEW is very nice, however, there are two very large trees in the center of backyard completely blocking it, you can see fabulously from other angles but this is not presented in photos. The main floor of the house, living room and kitchen are very nice and comfortable. The kitchen is not at all equipped for cooking or entertaining. The cookware should be in the trash, it is badly scratched up and there are limited pots and pans. There are only 4 wineglasses and barely any drinking glasses, 1 dishtowel. Plenty of dishes and silverware. Location is nice and very quiet. A car is optional. We used cabs and then found a path that is a 15 minute walk to town. Beautiful area, very tranquil and serene. I think it is perfect for a 3 or 4 night stay then move on. This house has a lot of potential. The fact that is was not clean or maintained and children's bedrooms 2 floors below in the musty basement was a big turn off! If you are traveling with 2 couples it would be fine added they update some kitchen necessities. Not good for anyone with young children as you are up 2 flights of granite stairs when sleeping. The rental company did respond and had everything cleaned but clearly are not doing their job of opening the house and having it ready for renters. This house just was not up to speed for the money. All of the details fell in the cracks. Cleaning, cookware, towels(1 per person and threadbare) pool, outside area. I'm not sure were this responsibility lies but someone is slacking off!!
