“Excellent location perfect for local hills”

Great views overlooking Altenmarkt, with a warm & friendly vibe . Clean & inviting with a great breakfast too . Highly recommended.

“Perfect location and very accommodating”

The hostel is perfect, comfortable, clean, affordable, close to a ski lift distance, great selection for breakfast, plenty of entertainment. James is an incredibly accommodating host helping us out with information, lifts, equipment hire and loads of other stuff. Five stars, highly recommended! The kitchen/lounge and bedrooms are comfortable and you'll find everything you might need. My friend had allergies and needed to ask for help with alternative bedding and food, which James was very happy to help arrange for us. He also booked us taxis, restaurants and sledging.

“Makes Austria feel like home”

First stay at Haus Kienreich in the last week of the winter season. James was full of great local knowledge and information. Communication was excellent from the start of the booking, to late arrival directions from the airport, to directions around the ski Amadé. The rooms were comfy, spacious, clean and had great facilities. Breakfast was more than enough with good quality food. The surrounding area is easily accessible by car (did not use the ski buses as out of season), and has great facilities for sports enthusiasts of all kinds, to those who like to chill. Haus Kienreich really became our home for the week and I would definitely return.

“Home Away from Home”

This is the third time we've stayed at Haus Kienreich for a ski holiday. On our trips we've stayed in both of the self-contained flats as well as the guest rooms. All are spotlessly clean, well-furnished and comfortable - find the robins! James and Tracey remain impeccable, accommodating, gracious hosts, ever helpful, ever knowledgeable. The self-serve breakfast in the cheery downstairs room is hearty (great coffee! great views!), made even better by the hosts coming down to sit and chat with the guests about what to do, where to go. The house is an easy 45-min drive from Salzburg and a quick 15-min drive from some of the best skiing around, even at the end of the season - good slopes, good food, and not too crowded, even at Easter. For me, the best thing is the night sledding, which I could happily do every night; James and Tracey know where and when it's happening. My kids absolutely love the place and told me 'it feels like home'. I'm very picky about my accommodation and honestly, you won't find a better place to stay for a holiday, winter or summer, and you certainly won't find better hosts. I can't wait to go back again.

“Fantastic holiday in beautiful surroundings.”

We were very fortunate to spend our first family ski trip in Haus Kienreich. The appartment was very comfortable and well equipped. James and Tracey were very accommodating and certainly made our trip one of the best holidays to date. We are all booked up to return! The region for skiing is amazing, the views from the house were just breath taking and the hospitality was faultless - what more could anyone ask for.

“A family run accommodation perfect for a family holiday”

Reviewed 21 Feb 2015

I highly recommended a stay with the Hinsby family . http://www.austrian-alps.com/Contact_and_find_us.html . A friendlier place to stay cannot be found and is second to none. The location of the accommodation is above the bottom of the run for Altenmarkt slopes; so the likely hood is you may have plenty of snow to play with in the grounds here too. Families can enjoy borrowing sledges for their kids to play on. Another great freebie is James's ( your hosts ) local knowledge to send you on your way to slopes that are best fitted to you and your families needs.

“Awesome place in the Austrian Alps”

My wife and I stayed at Haus Kienreich last winter and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone planning a winter getaway in Europe. If you're into skiing (or anything involving snow) this is the place. It's just an hour out of Salzburg by car. We stayed there over Christmas and even for relatively early season there was plenty of snow around the house and up on the skifields that are part of the Austrian gem of Ski Amade. The nearest ski lift is literally at the bottom of the driveway, 500m from the door! The position is awesome and gives you access to a crazy amount of lifts. Altenmarkt village is just down the road with a range of restaurants, shops (including a grocery store) and ski hire places. Hosts Tracey and James are super helpful and gave us some great advice on where to ski and what to do in the area. They were so friendly, gracious and helpful it made us feel very welcome. Their breakfasts were fantastic and got us going each morning for a day on the slopes. They've got cooking equipment in the breakfast room plus a sauna and drying room too. The room was spacious and comfortable and had an amazing view of the nearby slopes. It's such a brilliant place to stay we are trying to devise ways to get back there! We've heard with plenty of mountain biking, walking and sightseeing it's equally good in summer too...

“An amazing experience!!”

I originally booked with James following an advert that caught my attention on Facebook. I checked them out online and paid my deposit. I wanted to experience some proper alpine downhill riding but I had very little experience. James was quite happy to look after me and guide me at the local parks and most importantly they had uplift! I messed him around at the start as our plans kept changing but nothing seemed to annoy him. We arrived late on a Sunday evening to a warm welcome and some essential supplies. Nothing quite prepared us for the breath taking views and the glorious sunshine we when woke the following morning. Our accommodation was comfortable an extremely clean and had all the essentials if you wanted to cater for yourselves. We had breakfast every morning but chose to eat out most days. For us the purpose of the trip was to experience some amazing cycling and horse riding and we were not disappointed on either front. James was extremely patient at the bike parks helping me to improve my riding and my confidence. We rode three parks over the week making sure I had a rest day in between each which was just the right amount for. The last park we rode was Leogang the weekend before the UCI World Cup came into town and it was breath taking. Tracey escorted my wife horse riding and they had some simply amazing rides out in the sunshine. The stables catered for all standards, even the more confident riders which I am told is quite unusual for a riding school. This was all organised by Tracey and no hassle for us at all. James and Tracey simply couldn't do enough for us whilst we stayed with them and we were privileged enough to be introduced to their family and their BBQ! By the end of our week it felt more like a holiday with old friends rather than new acquaintances! We will definitely go back again! BTW you have to do the trip up the glacier.

Response from the owner It was great to meet you. and I think we had almost as much fun as you did. :-)

“Fantastic place to stay”

Reviewed 24 Mar 2013

This is the second time I've stayed at Haus Kienreich for a ski holiday with two now-teenage children, and I will definitely be returning. The house is perfectly placed for several ski areas as well as the picturesque town of Altenmarkt; most ski areas are within a short drive along excellent roads. The rooms are comfortable, bright and spotlessly clean, with plenty of storage and secure places to store ski equiment and dry your boots. A Continental breakfast is offered in the sunny breakfast room, with all the freshly-baked, hot croissants you can eat (we can eat a lot) and steaming hot coffee. James and Tracey are impeccable hosts, accommodating the needs of a variety of guests, full of useful information and endlessly helpful. My only regret is that we couldn't stay for longer!
