“Lakeside Property”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2017

With clear views across the lake, yatchs moored to the right and Villa Gaeta from 007 Casino Royale to the left I can highly recommend this individual house. We had a great week's stay in this unique house, it is perched right on the edge of Lake Como with balconies out over the water. There are fish and ducks clearly visible in the cool water below your breakfast table! Through your bedroom window you look out over the lake and are greeted each dawn by the sun coming up over the mountain opposite! We were met by Riccardo's Mother Tina, we texted Tina our arrival time & it was all very easy. There's a bottle of wine and water in the fridge when you arrive which is a nice touch, plus loo roll, towels and general cleaning products to get you going. The property & garden is private and not overlooked. Although this is traditional property with an interesting history it has been completely and sympathetically done up to a high standard, most likely using an excellent architect who has improved both house and garden. Everything is well thought out & the property is now very luxurious. The bathroom & kitchenette, air-conditioning, washing machine & boiler all seem new. The tiling is new but matches the style of property well. There's a shared garage available opposite the house on request but we chose to leave our car in one of the many parking bays near by. The property is on a road but it is not the main road, two small upstairs windows face the road but we were not bothered by noise at all. There is a small stoney beach within veiw of the property for swimming. The house is about 20mins walk from Menaggio, there's a bus but we walked every day, it's generally a nice / safe walk or cycle ride with just one short stretch where the pavement runs out. As you get close to Menaggio the path becomes a tree lined promonard along the lake that leads into town. In Menaggio there's a Piazza facing the lake with restaurants all round including the Tourist Information Office. We found a good supermarket in town and an excellent Greengrocer (closed on Sundays). Beyond the Piazza is the ferry port with regular trips to many more other towns and villages on Lake Como. As cyclists we can recommend this property both for Road bikes & MTB as you can access popular Lakeside and mountain routes and store bikes safely in the garden at night.

“Fantastic setting but basic facilities”

The Villa is about a 20 minute walk from the town. Once you reach the bus station turn left and walk along the front to the Square. The first part of the walk is next to the road with narrow or no paths at all. The owner arranged for us to be collected from the ferry which was very useful. The Villa has a stunning setting with fabulous views across the lake. There was very little information in the Villa of the surrounding area and the local amenities. The bed was uncomfortable and the crockery was very basic. The outside furniture had seen better days and a couple of the chairs were in a poor state of repair. We booked the Villa for our honeymoon a year in advance to ensure we were able to have the best choice of accommodation to be then contacted about 2 months before our trip by the owner indicating the first day of our booking was no longer available. We enjoyed our stay and enjoyed watching the life of the lake. Lake Como is very beautiful.

“Gorgeous location, lovely apartment”

About a 20 minute walk from the town centre. Quiet location with stunning views. Easy to get to restaurants and grocery stores. Apartment was spotless and owner was very accommodating, collecting us from the piazza after we arrived off the ferry. Thank you for a great week, we'll be back!

“Lovely little villa”

Great little villa for anyone looking to be (literally) right on top of Lake Como. The lake actually laps up under the terrace outside the kitchen/reception...! There's a huge sun terrace to the side as well as a large terrace off of the bedroom upstairs. There's free parking on the street and we also had use of a secure garage across the road. It's about a 20-25 minute walk back into Menaggio - but we were specifically looking to be out of the town anyway - so it suited us fine. The road is very close to the back of the property but we didn't really hear many vehicles going by as it's so far up the lake. We really liked it.

“Perfect Lake Como”

This was the highlight of our trip to Italy! Villa Damia was exactly what we wanted for our stay at Lake Como. We loved being right on the water and waking up to the sound of waves on the shore. It was peaceful and relaxing. The walk into town was about 15-20 minutes but it was a nice way to walk off our fabulous dinners at the restaurants of Menaggio. Riccardo's mother was at the ferry dock to greet us and take us to the house. There was a bottle of Prosecco waiting which was a nice touch:) We would highly recommend this property and we hope we can come back to stay again some day!
